Armstrong ran in the 2012 election for Kansas House of Representatives District 85. Despite running as a placeholder and not campaigning after gaining opposition, she defeated Barry D. Stanley in the August 7 Democratic primary. She later withdrew from the race, and Stanley was selected as the new nominee.[1] Incumbent Steve Brunk was unopposed in the Republican primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[2]
