Hi! I am an independent candidate who has just retired as a school principal at Abita Springs Elementary. I never thought I would run for political office, but here I am for your children and your grandchildren. I truly care and my relationship with my students, my staff, the parents, and the community was immeasurable. It begins at the top!

Children/employees who care about their school will achieve much more than those who do not. Let's build our schools to be places that display a family environment! Children need to be back on playgrounds and provided learning that they are developmentally ready to meet. Discipline issues do not need to interfere with classrooms. Students with special needs may be included as long as it is in their best interest. My background includes must of the guidance area which was such an important factor in my educational career. Families are dealing with many mental health issues, robbing our student's homes from family success. A huge area of concern in which I plan to work with others to address at the state level. Our students need more direction also in their choices after they leave our schools. Many students leave with no direction and failure seems to be inevitable. College and trade choices need more support from our schools.

Our staff are leaving this field and our students are choosing not to enter. We must revisit our changes and bring back the needs of our students and staff that were successful! It is our responsibility!
  • Our school in Abita was the Title 1 school of the year, chosen because of the family environment. It starts at the top!
  • Students/staff that feel loved and a sense of pride will work at a higher level of achievement! Wouldn't you?
  • A school board member has a duty to know what is happening in the schools and ask the right questions to make sure they are involved in ensuring success.
*Staff and students feeling a sense of ownership in the school they are a part.
  • Parents being involved in their child's educational and the school system working to ensure they feel their opinions are valued.
  • School system leaders working with the state to return decision making to the local level and the board and the central office joining forces to see the schools have input in decision making processes.
  • Educators feeling valued for instructional decisions and more bottom-up decisions as the parish level.
  • Student guidance for life choices after leaving the educational system.
  • Student with exceptionalities having the correct programs to ensure they are in the correct placement.
My father! He always believed in doing what was right even if it did not benefit our family or made us uncomfortable. His values were instilled in us to believe we were placed on earth to help others.
Teaching with the heart in mind. Until students love who is instructing them and know they truly care and have a purpose for learning, they will give you bare minimum. When they feel loved and have a purpose for learning, they will give you their souls and hearts.
Honesty is one of the most important qualities. Campaign promises can lead to disappointment for those who are given the idea that things will happen that may not be possible. When each party feels they can trust the other party, there will sense of comfort that once someone is given a promise, it will be fulfilled. Open lines of communication support each party with feeling appreciated and valued.
I am open and honest. I work well with people and my relationships are always positive in nature. I am a good listener and I think things through very carefully before responding or reacting. I try to see things from different perspectives before making a decision.
To be a good listener with an open mind for change. Change must happen, but also it is the responsibility of the person in this position to see if change is something that will enhance the system or destroy the quality. The person in this position should also be aware of the needs of both the parents they serve and the system they are given the responsibility to ensure responsibility.
A legacy that children enjoy and love their schools with parents feeling they can trust and know the school system has the best interest of their children. Employees who love their work and feel valued and appreciated.
When I was in the 10th grade out schools were the first to become combined with our black schools, it was a very smooth change.
My very first job was a loan officer and a bank in Mississippi. I worked at this job for one year until I return to get my educational degree
On Golden Pond. A reflection of what really matters in life, Relationships.
Always be Humble and Kind by Tim McGraw
Wanting other to see life as positive as I do. This I strive to help others which can be quite a struggle at times.
The primary job of a school board member is to work with the central office, parents, and the school system staff to ensure a successful school system
Employees, students, parents, and central office.
Through working together with the central office and the other board members we can identify the needs of all of our district students faculty staff and community. Working together through surveying their thoughts, will build an understanding that we can better meet the needs of these areas.
A board member should be visible in the schools, accessible to employees and parents to discuss their concerns, A target area would be the students. When listening to students, you will gain much insight as to the needs and concerns in the schools. Open conversations with staff and administrators can be very supportive to making informed decisions on the board.
Yes, the diversity supports student success for all stake holders can provide much insight into the students needs and support.
Discipline is a major obstacle along with mental health issues in families. Students coming into the education system today are carrying many family situations that are very much affecting their learning and ability to perform to their best. Discipline needs more attention from the families working with professionals to remove these barriers.
Much of the task introduced into the educational system today are overloading the work situation, therefore, leading to the loss of instruction and educators time are being spent on non-instructional duties.
Good teaching is done when educators are given the ability to take the standards and decide on the best way in order to provide the instruction based on the student's needs. Student measurement can be done as the teacher provides instructional and request feedback from the students. Teachers need more PD during the time they are not involved in the classrooms. Train early and be prepared for the year before this time becomes too involved with students.
Curriculum needs to be expanded at the appropriate levels so that students learn to think and solve. Not moving the levels to higher expectations but more critical thinking of our students. Training for jobs would be an excellent idea for students many times leave for a higher educational setting and do not have clear direction.

I feel more internships for on the job for high school students would be highly successful in sending young people into the choices past high school degrees.
Much of the funding is not spent to benefit the students due to regulations of the expenditures. It would be beneficial to all schools in the funding committees could work together from the Federal and state level to ensure the funding is truly spent to support the needs of the students.
Safety in school must be looked at as a twofold process. The mental health area of students/parents are a level of crisis. More counseling would be a great way to support the needs of the young families. SRO officers should be placed in order that they are able to identify with parents and connect with them as they enter the campuses. Offering counseling services discreetly to parents of students would be highly supportive.
I am a counselor, so I see the needs of this field to increase tremendously. Local counseling agencies funded by our state/governmental agencies in which "true" counseling services are provided for those families in need.
Technology is an important part of the curriculum and is every changing daily. The school must keep current trends supported for the students. This mean planning ahead for technology training and for technology equipment. Grants and federal funding are supportive for many of these areas. A board must be willing to see the needs of the students to keep up with all new and inovative changes.
Knock Knock...........all kids love this joke.
Our school system must provide instructional needs during any pandemic times. Being prepared for this time is one of the most effective ways to ensure students do not lose any growth in instruction. Waiting for a crisis before responding can only result in failure.
Parents who feel included in decision making processes will support the school system in a more positive manner. Many parents just want to be included and usually work very well with administration when placed in these roles. Simply listening to parent concerns and answering questions with open and honest conversations supports a positive relationship between the two parties.
