Arizona: Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Hugh Hegyi has denied the request of Senate President Russell Pearce's attorney Lisa Hauser concerning the legal challenge of recall petitions.[1]

The November 8th recall election of Senate President Russell Pearce is going to move forward unless his attorney can get more than 2,609 of the 10,365 signatures tossed out, and thus canceling the election.[1]

If this goal is not achieved, the state of Arizona will bring into its rich history the first-ever recall election of a state lawmaker.[1]

Hauser's legal challenge asserted that there were some problems with the signatures. One problem being that not one of any of the petition forms complied with state requirements. Requirements such as petition gatherers needing to sign an oath that the signatures are genuine, in addition to recall statements being misleading and not clearly explaining that to sign the petition would mean to support a recall election.[1]

Any candidates that are interested in running in the election against Russell Pearce have until the 9th of September to collect the required 621 signatures to qualify for the ballot and submit them into the Secretary of State's Office.[1]
