An effort to recall 9 members of the Monroe County Commission in Monroe County, Wisconsin was kicked off July 22, 2009[1] The targeted supervisors are County Board Chairman Dennis Hubbard, Pete Peterson, Teresa Pierce, Jim Shilling, Chuck Schwarz, Simon Wells, Carrol Wallerman, Bob Helming and Jim Kuhn. A total of 8 members were ousted in recall elections, only Wallerman retained her seat.[2][3]
The Monroe County Taxpayers Relief Committee led the recall effort. The group targeted those members of the Monroe County Commission who voted to approve a $30 million Justice Center Project in the county. Dennis Clinard is the head of the taxpayers/recall group.[1]
The recall group had sixty days to collect signatures to force a recall.
Those opposed to Monroe County spending money on the Justice Center have asked that instead of going ahead with their plans, the county commission instead put the question about whether to proceed in front of the voters.
