Three members of the Tahoe Truckee School Board were targeted for recall, but the effort fell short of collecting sufficient signatures to qualify for the ballot.[1]
School board members Kristy Olk, Bill Kraus and Bev Ducey were targeted in the recall effort.[2]
Signatures were due on October 2, 2009. The recall group needed to collect 3,400 for each of three recalls. They collected 3,081 signatures to recall Kraus, 3,065 to recall Olk and 3,062 to recall Ducey.
The recall effort was motivated by a controversial decision supported by Olk, Kraus and Ducey. They supported changing the K-5 Tahoe Lake Elementary and Kings Beach Elementary schools into K-3 campuses, shifting North Tahoe Middle School into a 4-8 school, shifting Tahoe Lake to an English mainstream program and Kings Beach to a Two-Way Spanish Immersion program.
