Navajo Nation ballot measures

The Navajo Nation Election Code provides for three different types of ballot measures, which are as follows:[1]

  • referendum measures can be referred to the ballot by the Navajo Nation Council;
  • referendum measures may be referred by a Chapter Resolution to be decided by registered voters within that Chapter Area; and
  • initiatives may be placed on a ballot by initiative petition.

Information

Voting on Navajo Nation ballot measures is administered by the Navajo Nation Election Administration, which is responsible for all elections conducted within the Navajo Nation.

The Navajo Election Administration, in particular, administers any special elections on what are known within the Navajo Nation as Referendum Elections.
