I bring a unique combination of experience and expertise that makes me well-prepared to lead Riverdale as its next mayor. My background in construction and union work equips me with the skills to oversee public works projects, negotiate contracts, and foster partnerships that benefit the community. With a degree in sociology, I understand the diverse needs of our residents and can create policies that promote fairness, inclusion, and equity.

As a business owner and investor, I have firsthand experience managing resources and driving economic growth. I know how to attract businesses and create opportunities that will help Riverdale thrive. My time as an educator and volunteer reflects my dedication to empowering others and giving back to the community, while my consulting experience and Six Sigma training ensure I can solve complex problems, streamline processes, and improve organizational efficiency.

With a Master of Science in Technology, I bring an innovative, forward-thinking approach to leadership, ready to modernize operations and implement smart solutions to our challenges. Having lived in Riverdale since 1989, I understand its history, its people, and its potential. I’m committed to creating a safer, stronger, and more prosperous future for everyone in our village. Together, we can make Riverdale a place we’re all proud to call home.
  • Revitalizing Riverdale with Integrity and Vision #RenaforRiverdale #PoulosforProgress

I am committed to revitalizing Riverdale and driving economic development to create a thriving, community. Revitalization begins with investing in infrastructure, beautifying our neighborhoods, and enhancing public spaces.

I will actively work to bring new businesses and industries to Riverdale, creating jobs and expanding our tax base. By supporting local entrepreneurs and partnering with stakeholders, we can build a diverse economy that meets the needs of our community. Through smart planning and responsible leadership, we can transform Riverdale into a hub of opportunity and growth, where residents and businesses prosper together.
  • I am committed to reducing the property tax burden on Riverdale residents. High property taxes discourage growth and strain families, making it harder for our community to thrive. My plan focuses on attracting new businesses and investments to expand our tax base, reducing the reliance on homeowners to fund village operations. I will prioritize responsible budgeting and implement cost-saving measures to ensure every dollar is spent wisely. By improving efficiency and eliminating waste, we can maintain essential services while lowering taxes. Together, we can make Riverdale more affordable and create a stronger, more prosperous community for families and businesses alike.
  • I will prioritize creating programs and services that support our youth and seniors while fostering a stronger sense of community in Riverdale. Our young people deserve opportunities to grow, learn, and succeed through mentorship, recreational activities, and career training. At the same time, we must ensure our seniors have access to vital resources, social programs, and a support system that values their contributions. By investing in community centers, intergenerational programs, and local events, we can bring residents of all ages together, building a united, supportive Riverdale where everyone feels connected and valued. Together, we can create a brighter future for all.
I am passionate about affordable housing and community development to ensure all residents have access to safe, affordable homes. My approach includes:

1. Incentivizing Housing Development: Partnering with developers to create affordable housing for families, seniors, and young professionals.

2. Neighborhood Revitalization: Rehabilitating abandoned properties and repurposing vacant lots to strengthen communities.

3. Homeownership Programs: Supporting first-time homebuyer assistance to help residents invest in Riverdale.

4. Rent Control Measures: Protecting tenants from excessive rent hikes while ensuring fair compensation for property owners.

This policy will foster a stronger, more stable community for everyone.
I look up to individuals who exhibit strong leadership, resilience, and a commitment to positive change. One person whose example I would like to follow is Barack Obama. His ability to unite people, his calm and thoughtful approach to leadership, and his focus on hope and progress are qualities that I deeply admire. He faced immense challenges during his presidency but remained grounded, compassionate, and dedicated to making a meaningful difference.

I also respect Maya Angelou, whose wisdom and ability to overcome adversity resonate with me. Her words, grounded in a deep understanding of human experience, continue to inspire people to embrace their voices and stay true to themselves. Her resilience, grace, and commitment to equality are traits I hope to emulate.

Both figures have shown that leadership is not just about achieving success but about lifting others along the way, fostering unity, and creating lasting positive impact. Their examples remind me that true leadership comes from a place of empathy, integrity, and service to others.
I would recommend a mix of works that emphasize community, leadership, and practical solutions for governance.

1. "The Audacity of Hope" by Barack Obama
This book reflects on the importance of hope, change, and unity in American politics. Obama discusses his vision for a better future while emphasizing the need for pragmatic solutions and bringing people together across political divides—principles that align with my approach to leadership and community service.

2. "The Third Way: The Renewal of Social Democracy" by Anthony Giddens
Giddens explores the idea of a "third way" between traditional left and right political ideologies, emphasizing the need for practical, progressive solutions in a rapidly changing world. It touches on issues like economic development, social services, and balancing fiscal responsibility with compassion—ideas that resonate with my belief in effective, equitable leadership.

4. Film: "Lincoln" (2012, directed by Steven Spielberg)
This film captures the political wisdom and leadership of President Abraham Lincoln during one of America’s most tumultuous times. It shows the importance of working with others, maintaining principles while pursuing pragmatic solutions, and making difficult decisions for the greater good—all of which I believe are critical to effective governance.

5. "The Politics of Hope" by John F. Kennedy

Kennedy’s work is deeply rooted in the idea that public service is a calling and that leadership requires vision, courage, and a deep commitment to public service. His ideas about community and the greater good provide valuable context for anyone interested in understanding a leadership approach that balances ambition with compassion.

2. Accountability – Officials should be willing to take responsibility for their decisions and actions, answering to the people they serve.

3. Empathy and Compassion – Understanding the needs and challenges of diverse community members and working to support those who are most vulnerable.

4. Effective Communication – The ability to clearly communicate policies, decisions, and goals to the public, ensuring residents feel informed and heard.

5. Leadership and Vision – A good official provides direction and sets long-term goals that benefit the entire community, inspiring others to work toward shared objectives.

6. Collaboration and Teamwork – Building partnerships within the community and with other officials to achieve common goals.

7. Problem-Solving and Innovation – The ability to think critically and find creative solutions to challenges that arise in the community.

8. Fairness and Justice – Ensuring that all constituents are treated equally and policies are enacted with fairness and equity in mind.
I believe the following qualities will help me be a successful officeholder:

My background in construction, sociology, business, and consulting provides a well-rounded perspective on both practical and strategic aspects of governance. My community involvement and diverse professional experiences give me the insight to make informed decisions for Riverdale.

Having spent years volunteering and engaging with my community, I am deeply committed to improving Riverdale. My long-standing connection to the area allows me to understand the challenges we face and how to best address them.

3. Leadership and Problem-Solving
Through managing teams, running businesses, and navigating complex projects, I have developed strong leadership and problem-solving skills. I am capable of identifying challenges, collaborating with others, and finding innovative solutions to better serve the community.

4. Transparency and Accountability
I value transparency and accountability in leadership. I believe that clear communication and being open to scrutiny are essential to maintaining trust with the community. I will always prioritize honesty and ensure decisions are made in the best interest of Riverdale’s residents.

5. Financial Responsibility
My experience as a business owner and consultant has sharpened my financial skills. I understand the importance of managing resources effectively and ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, with a focus on reducing unnecessary burdens like high property taxes.

6. Collaboration and Building Consensus
I believe in collaboration and bringing people together to find common ground. I will work with fellow elected officials, residents, and stakeholders to ensure decisions reflect the diverse needs of the community.

These qualities, along with my dedication to public service, will allow me to serve Riverdale effectively and work towards a thriving future for all residents.
1. Leadership and Vision

The mayor must provide clear direction for the community, setting long-term goals that foster growth, sustainability, and prosperity. As mayor, I will lead with a strategic vision for Riverdale’s future, ensuring we take steps today to build a stronger tomorrow.

2. Public Service
Above all, the mayor must serve the people. I will ensure that the needs and concerns of Riverdale residents are prioritized, listening to their feedback, and making decisions that reflect their interests. The community's well-being must always be at the heart of governance.

3. Fiscal Responsibility
Managing the village’s budget is one of the most critical responsibilities of a mayor. I will ensure that our resources are used efficiently and effectively, prioritizing essential services like public safety, education, and infrastructure. At the same time, I will work to secure additional funding and drive economic development, so Riverdale can thrive without relying on excessive taxes.

4. Public Safety and Well-being
Ensuring the safety, health, and quality of life of our residents is a top priority. I will work to strengthen our police, fire, and emergency services, while promoting initiatives to support mental health, healthcare, and other essential services that enhance the well-being of our community.

5. Transparency and Accountability
As mayor, I will act with integrity and honesty, making sure all decisions are transparent and communicated effectively to the public. Residents must feel informed and confident in the leadership they are receiving. I will always be accountable to the people of Riverdale.

6. Collaboration and Partnerships
Solving problems and achieving goals requires teamwork. I will build partnerships with local organizations, other municipalities, and stakeholders to create comprehensive solutions.

7. Community Engagement and Empowerment

A mayor should not only lead but also engage the community regularly. Empowering residents' voice.
The legacy I hope to leave as mayor of Riverdale is one of positive growth, community unity, and a city that works for all its residents. I aim to create a Riverdale that future generations will be proud of—one that is economically strong, welcoming, and resilient.

1. A Thriving Economy
I want to leave a legacy of economic revitalization, where businesses thrive, job opportunities are abundant, and residents have access to affordable housing and services. Lowering property taxes and attracting new investments will help create lasting prosperity for our community.

2. Stronger Community Bonds
Building a more connected community is key. I want Riverdale to be a place where neighbors support one another, and where youth have opportunities to succeed. Strengthening public safety, expanding youth programs, and creating spaces for residents to engage will foster collaboration and growth.

3. Improved Public Services
I aim to leave behind a city government that is efficient, transparent, and accountable. This includes improving services like waste management and public safety, ensuring that every dollar spent benefits the community.

4. Lowered Property Taxes
Reducing property taxes is a priority for me, making Riverdale more affordable for families and homeowners. By being fiscally responsible, we can ensure that residents are not overburdened by taxes.

5. A Sustainable Future
I want Riverdale to be a city that future generations will enjoy living in, with a sustainable infrastructure, strong environmental policies, and a continued focus on quality of life.

In summary, I want to leave a legacy of progress, fairness, and unity—creating a Riverdale that is safer, stronger, and more prosperous for everyone.
My very first job was as a secretary, and I worked with that company for 20 years. Over time, I rose through the ranks and eventually became JVP/COO. After such an extensive tenure, I decided it was time to leave and start my own business, using the skills and experience I gained to pursue new opportunities.
My favorite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I find it inspiring because it beautifully blends themes of self-discovery, perseverance, and following one’s dreams. The protagonist, Santiago, embarks on a journey that teaches him that the pursuit of personal legend and purpose is the true essence of life. The book reminds me that the obstacles we face are part of a larger journey, and that the wisdom we seek is often found in the process itself, not just the destination. It’s a story about embracing destiny and listening to the heart, which resonates deeply with me in both personal and professional life.
If I could be any fictional character, I would choose Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings. Gandalf embodies wisdom, leadership, and selflessness, playing a crucial role in guiding others toward their destiny and helping them realize their potential. His ability to see beyond immediate challenges and make strategic decisions is something I admire. But what makes him even more compelling is the depth of his struggles and identity issues. As a powerful wizard, he faces the challenge of remaining humble, understanding the balance between authority and empathy, and often grapples with the weight of his responsibilities. His transformation from Gandalf the Grey to Gandalf the White symbolizes not just a shift in power, but an evolution of understanding—learning from his own setbacks, doubts, and the realization that even those who strive for the greater good are not immune to vulnerability. His journey of self-discovery, sacrifice, and resilience is deeply inspiring, and I think these qualities are incredibly valuable in any leadership role.
“Freedom” by Beyoncé featuring Kendrick Lamar. The song has an empowering message about overcoming struggles, breaking barriers, and embracing personal strength. Its powerful lyrics and energetic beats make it a perfect anthem for resilience and liberation, resonating with today’s generation.
As a longtime resident of Riverdale, being mayor means more to me than just holding an office—it’s about giving back to the community that has shaped who I am. I have a deep desire to see Riverdale thrive and strive, ensuring it becomes a place where residents, businesses, and families can grow and succeed.

To me, being a mayor means being a servant-leader—someone who listens, leads with integrity, and puts the needs of the community first. A mayor is not only the head of local government but also a symbol of hope, progress, and unity for the city. Leadership means taking responsibility for the well-being of every resident, building a vision for the future, and working tirelessly to bring that vision to life.

As mayor, I would focus on being both a problem-solver and a collaborator, working with residents, local businesses, and community organizations. The role requires balancing immediate needs with long-term goals, ensuring that policies today benefit the community in the future.

Leadership also means fostering trust and accountability. As your mayor, I would ensure that the government operates transparently and ethically, always listening to residents’ concerns, advocating for their needs, and being held accountable for the decisions made.

In essence, being a mayor is about creating a sense of shared purpose, where every resident feels valued, heard, and empowered to contribute to the city’s growth. It’s about leading with compassion, vision, and responsibility, ensuring the city is a place where all people can thrive.
The mayor's top priority should be providing strong leadership, vision, and governance oversight. In this structure, the mayor's role is less about micromanaging daily operations and more about setting the strategic direction and ensuring that the city manager and other government leaders are aligned with the community's long-term goals.

1. Setting a Clear Vision and Strategic Goals
The mayor should lead the council in establishing a unified vision for the city's future, setting clear and achievable goals that align with the needs and desires of the residents. This includes prioritizing economic development, community services, infrastructure, and public safety.

2. Fostering Collaboration and Communication
The mayor should facilitate collaboration among the city council, the city manager, and residents. Regular communication between the mayor and the city manager is essential to ensure that the administration's work is aligned with the priorities set by the council and the community.

3. Oversight and Accountability
While the city manager handles day-to-day operations, the mayor plays a key role in holding them accountable. The mayor should regularly assess the effectiveness of policies, programs, and budget decisions, ensuring that the city is operating efficiently and that resources are being used effectively.

4. Advocating for the Community
The mayor should be the primary voice of the people, advocating for their needs and concerns within the council and in external discussions with other government bodies, businesses, and stakeholders. They should ensure that policies reflect the values and priorities of the community.

5. Building Strong Relationships

The mayor must foster strong relationships with the city council, city staff, and the wider community. This builds trust and ensures that decisions are made with input from all sectors of the community, encouraging civic engagement and collaboration.
The ideal relationship between the mayor and city council should be based on collaboration, clear roles, and mutual respect.

1. Clear Division of Responsibilities
The mayor manages daily operations, city departments, and the execution of council policies, while the city council focuses on legislation, setting policies, and long-term planning. This clear division helps both entities function effectively without overlapping responsibilities.

2. Open Communication
Regular communication between the mayor and the city council is crucial. The mayor should provide updates on the city’s progress, challenges, and plans, ensuring the council is well-informed. Transparent communication fosters understanding and helps guide policy decisions.

3. Collaboration and Partnership
The mayor and city council should work as a team. The mayor brings ideas for execution, while the council helps shape them into policies. Both should work together to align day-to-day administration with long-term community goals.

4. Mutual Respect and Trust
There must be respect for each other’s roles. The mayor should respect the council's legislative authority, while the council should trust the mayor’s ability to manage the city effectively. Both must work toward shared objectives for the betterment of the community.

5. Accountability and Oversight
The city council holds the mayor accountable for managing resources, adhering to budgets, and delivering on policies. Regular reviews and reports ensure transparency and responsible governance.

6. Community Advocacy
Both the mayor and council should prioritize the needs of the community, with the mayor handling daily concerns and the council focusing on broader strategic goals. Together, they should ensure that decisions reflect the values and needs of the people.

The mayor and city council must work as a cohesive team, respecting each other’s responsibilities and collaborating to serve the community.
Having lived here for so many years, I’ve seen firsthand how residents come together, support one another, and take pride in their homes and neighborhood. There's a strong connection among the people, from long-time residents to newcomers, all working toward a common goal of making Riverdale a better place for everyone.

I also love the rich history of our city and its resilience. Riverdale has faced challenges, but the spirit of the people here has always been one of perseverance and hope. Our deep-rooted local culture, and the stories of our families are what make this place unique.

Finally, I appreciate the potential that Riverdale holds. With the right leadership, collaboration, and community involvement, I believe we can unlock the full potential of our city, creating opportunities for all our residents to thrive.
Riverdale faces several significant challenges in the next decade, but with strong leadership and community involvement, we can overcome them.

1. Lowering Property Taxes
One of my top priorities is lowering property taxes. High property taxes place a heavy burden on homeowners, making Riverdale less affordable. By improving fiscal responsibility and stimulating economic growth, we can work to reduce the tax burden on residents.

2. Economic Development and Job Creation
Attracting new businesses, supporting local businesses, and creating job opportunities are crucial to Riverdale's prosperity. A business-friendly environment and sustainable development can help generate revenue, reduce unemployment, and strengthen the local economy.

3. Public Safety and Crime Reduction
Ensuring a safer community is vital. Strengthening our police force, investing in community policing programs, and addressing the root causes of crime, like poverty and lack of opportunity, will help create a safer, more secure environment.

4. Youth Services and Education
Expanding youth programs, offering quality education, and providing mentorship opportunities are key to breaking cycles of poverty and ensuring young people have the tools to succeed. Creating safe spaces and recreational activities for youth will benefit the whole community.

5. Affordable Housing and Infrastructure
Addressing affordable housing needs and improving infrastructure is crucial for Riverdale's growth. Maintaining roads, public transportation, and ensuring stable, affordable housing will enhance the quality of life for residents.

6. Community Engagement and Trust
Fostering open communication, transparency, and trust between the community and local government is essential. Engaging residents in decision-making ensures that policies reflect their needs and priorities.

By addressing these challenges, Riverdale can thrive and create a better future for all residents.
The ideal relationship between Riverdale and the state government should be one of collaboration, mutual support, and respect for local autonomy. Both levels of government must work together to address shared goals while ensuring Riverdale’s unique needs are prioritized.

1. Collaboration on Shared Priorities
Riverdale and the state should collaborate on key issues such as education, infrastructure, and public safety. By working together, we can leverage state resources to benefit our community and achieve common goals.

2. Advocacy for Riverdale’s Needs
The mayor and city leaders must advocate for Riverdale at the state level. Whether it's securing funding for local projects or addressing policy issues, it’s essential that Riverdale has a voice in state government to ensure our community’s needs are met.

3. Effective Use of State Resources
The state offers funding opportunities, grants, and programs that can help Riverdale address local challenges. By actively engaging with the state, we can secure resources to improve economic development, public health, and other key services.

4. Respect for Local Autonomy
While state support is crucial, Riverdale must retain control over local decisions. Local leaders understand the community’s specific needs and should have the flexibility to implement solutions that work best for our residents without undue state interference.

5. Clear Communication and Transparency
Open, transparent communication between Riverdale and the state ensures that both sides understand each other’s challenges and can work together to find effective solutions.

In essence, the ideal relationship should be a partnership that strengthens Riverdale, while respecting our ability to govern in the best interests of our residents.
The ideal relationship between Riverdale and the federal government should be one of cooperation, mutual respect, and shared responsibility. The federal government plays a critical role in supporting local communities, and Riverdale should benefit from this support while maintaining local control.

1. Access to Federal Resources and Funding
Riverdale should actively pursue federal funding, grants, and programs to support local needs, from infrastructure improvements to community services. Federal resources can help us address key challenges and create opportunities for growth.

2. Collaboration on National Priorities
Riverdale should align with federal priorities such as public health, education, and economic development to take advantage of national initiatives. By collaborating with the federal government, we can bring resources to solve local issues.

3. Advocacy for Riverdale’s Needs
It’s vital that Riverdale advocates for policies that benefit our residents. Whether it’s securing funding for local projects or addressing issues like affordable housing, we must ensure that Riverdale’s voice is heard in Washington.

4. Support for Local Autonomy
While the federal government provides valuable support, Riverdale should retain local control over decision-making. Federal policies should complement local needs without imposing one-size-fits-all solutions.

5. Clear Communication and Transparency
Open communication with federal representatives ensures Riverdale’s priorities are heard and addressed. Transparency fosters collaboration and ensures we’re aligned on issues that matter most to our residents.

In summary, the ideal relationship should be a partnership that enables Riverdale to leverage federal resources while preserving local governance, ultimately improving the quality of life for our community.
This is not my favorite joke, but I'm a fan of laughter—especially dad jokes:

Why did the politician bring a ladder to the speech?

Because they wanted to take their career to the next level!
The ideal relationship between the mayor's office and law enforcement should be one of collaboration, trust, and shared commitment to public safety. As mayor, fostering a positive working relationship with law enforcement is crucial for the well-being of the community.

1. Collaboration on Public Safety Goals
The mayor and law enforcement must work together to develop strategies for crime prevention, community policing, and emergency response. A shared approach ensures the community remains safe and resilient.

2. Support and Resources for Law Enforcement
The mayor should ensure law enforcement has the resources, training, and support to perform their duties effectively. This includes securing funding, promoting ongoing officer training, and providing necessary tools to safeguard the community.

3. Transparency and Accountability
Transparency and accountability are key. The mayor should work with law enforcement to communicate policies and practices to the public and establish mechanisms for oversight. This fosters trust and ensures law enforcement is held accountable for their actions.

4. Community Engagement
Positive relationships between law enforcement and the community are essential. The mayor should encourage community policing, town halls, and outreach programs to build trust and ensure residents feel heard and respected.

5. Fostering a Culture of Respect
The mayor’s office should work with law enforcement to ensure that respect, fairness, and justice guide police actions. Promoting diversity and inclusion within the department, addressing biases, and ensuring officers respect the rights of all citizens are vital to maintaining a fair police force.

In summary, the mayor’s office and law enforcement must work together to ensure a safe, just, and inclusive community. By collaborating, supporting each other, and prioritizing transparency and engagement, we can create a safer city for everyone.
I believe that financial transparency and government accountability are crucial to building trust and ensuring effective leadership. As mayor, I would prioritize these principles in every aspect of governance.

1. Clear, Accessible Financial Reporting
I will ensure regular, easy-to-understand financial reports are made available to the public. Residents will be able to see exactly how their tax dollars are spent, including a clear breakdown of the village’s budget and expenditures.

2. Public Involvement in Budgeting
Government decisions should reflect the needs of the community. I will actively encourage public participation in the budgeting process through town halls, surveys, and open forums, ensuring that residents have a voice in where resources are allocated.

3. Efficiency and Cost-Effectiveness
Transparency is about more than sharing information—it’s also about spending wisely. I will initiate regular audits and reviews of government programs to identify inefficiencies, reduce waste, and ensure funds are used effectively.

4. Accountability to the Public
As your mayor, I will be accountable for every financial decision. I will establish oversight mechanisms to ensure public funds are used responsibly, and there will be clear consequences for misuse of resources.

5. Long-Term Financial Planning
I will work to secure Riverdale’s financial future through sustainable planning, managing debt, and investing in infrastructure projects that ensure long-term stability and growth.

By focusing on transparency and accountability, I aim to build a government that is open, efficient, and truly serves the needs of the people.
