What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
House Cleaning Reforms: campaign finance reform, lobbying reform, redistricting reform to get the corruption out of our government. Healthcare: ensure every American has access to quality healthcare. Living Wages: ensure anyone working 40 hours per week can make a living for their family.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Healthcare, veterans care
Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?
Cheri Bustos, IL-15 . She beat the odds and won in a rural, red district understanding what people are concerned about. She is a listener and a leader who serves from a place of humility.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Integrity.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I have the ability to build teams, lead and work with others. I also have the ability to stand up as a minority opinion when needed.
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
Uphold the interests of the people who elected me.
What legacy would you like to leave?
That I enhanced the lives of Missourians, bringing quality healthcare, education, industry, infrastructure.
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?
Nixon's resignation. I was six and my dad told me to watch it, that it was an historical event that I'd want to remember.
What process do you favor for redistricting?
We have a handful of states successfully redistricting. I'd favor studying their methods and implementing the most neutral.
What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?
If we don't reform our government to get money out we will continue to have a polarized congress that can't effectively legislate for the people.
If you are not a current representative, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
Agriculture, Armed Services, Small Business
Do you believe that two years is the right term length for representatives?
I think it should be longer so representatives aren't constantly campaigning.
What are your thoughts on term limits?
I'd be for term limits provided there is lobbying reform. Otherwise, lobbyists would be even more powerful with a large percentage of new congressmen coming in every term. Also, if congressmen knew their term was almost over, they would be even more influenced. We run the risk of losing institutional memory and terming out really effective congressmen.
If you are not currently a member of your party’s leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives, would you be interested in joining the leadership? If so, in what role?
Yes, in whatever role I could best serve the American people.
