East Tennessean. Cat Mom. Clean Water Advocate. Candidate for Congress. That's my Twitter bio, and I think it sums me up. I served as the director of the Tennessee Clean Water Network for 14 years, where we took on polluters and forced them to take responsibility for their own mess. At TCWN, I advocated for major changes in government policy, testified in front of Congress, installed clean drinking water fountains at schools across Tennessee, and more. A proud granddaughter of immigrants and a product of public education, my Mom was a physical therapist and my Dad was a public school teacher.
  • Lower the cost of prescription drugs and protect people with pre-existing conditions
  • Fight the powerful & corrupt special interests that have taken our government hostage
  • Protect clean water and rebuild important infrastructure around the country
Health care advocacy, environmental advocacy, labor rights, women's rights.
I got my first job when I turned 12 years old, cleaning stalls at the nearby stables. The stables were four miles from my home, so I rode my Schwinn Bantam, with streamers on the handlebar grips and a basket on the front, those four miles to earn $1 an hour shoveling manure. My bike was a fixed gear, so I had to walk the hills on the way, but I went three times a week. The lessons I learned on those hills have stuck with me ever since.
