Biography
Renee Rose was born in Los Angeles, California. Rose earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1987 and a law degree from the Southwestern School of Law in 1991. Her career experience includes working as a prosecutor.[1]

I have been a prosecutor representing victims for over 32 years. I have broad and diverse experience as a prosecutor in two different counties, Los Angeles & Riverside. During my career at the LA DA’s Office, I have been assigned to the Hardcore Gang Unit, I was the assigned meth lab prosecutor while in the Major Narcotics Unit, I was one of two specially assigned prosecutors to the Arson & Explosives Unit, and for the past 7 years, I have been the Deputy-in-Charge of the Elder & Dependent Adult Abuse Unit.
As the Deputy-in-Charge, I supervise a specialized unit of DAs that prosecutes the physical, emotional, and financial abuse inflicted on seniors 65-years and older or on adults who are developmentally or physically disabled. Our defendants are primary the adult children and grandchildren or other family members of our senior victims who suffer from mental illness and substance addiction. They live with their elderly parents because, frankly, no one else in the family will take them in. I understand that Justice for those abused parents can include mental health or drug addiction treatment.
I regularly train police, prosecutors and social workers on the identification and prevention of senior financial exploitation and abuse as well as best practices in the investigation and prosecution of elder abuse cases.
I believe we need more women judges to be role models for our girls!
- I believe in serving my community. The best part of my job is to go into the community and speak with seniors, their adult children, community groups, religious organizations, attorneys, and financial professionals on what elder abuse looks and feels like, how to report it and how to avoid falling victim to the latest financial scams.
I have taught 5th graders about the dangers of drugs, gangs, bullies, and depression as a “Project Lead” facilitator in elementary schools in Inglewood, Lynwood and Compton and my 7th Grade daughter and I are members of the National Charity League – Pasadena Chapter where we regularly volunteer with charities throughout the San Gabriel Valley and Greater LA.
I'm ready to serve my community as a judge!
- Over my 3 decades of public service, I have seen firsthand the impact of a Judge’s decisions on my victims, on my defendants and on all those who were affected by crime. I know the importance of a judge that is smart, fair, efficient, and kind. I have the commitment, dedication, temperament, and knowledge to make well-reasoned decisions based on the law and to give all sides a fair hearing. I will treat everyone the way I always wanted to be treated in a courtroom, fairly and respectfully. I understand the stresses of a courtroom and the complexities of litigation. I am the most qualified in my race as I have done substantial work, throughout my career, in underserved communities and representing the most vulnerable victims.
- Now I’m running for Judge because I know that I have the right experience, work ethic, and compassion to be a great Judge. I believe that we need people with empathy, who are thoughtful, well-informed and who have a true understanding that for every person who must go to court for a case – it’s probably one of their worst days. Whether the decisions are about child custody, or money, or their own personal freedom or they are being asked to re-live a terrible event, these times are very stressful and emotional. If elected, I will provide a safe, fair, just, and respectful forum for your cases to be heard.
I support establishing more juvenile diversion and prevention programs like Teen Court. Teen Court provides an effective way for first time juvenile offenders to experience accountability for their criminal actions, in front of their parents and peers, without suffering the lasting consequences of having a case in juvenile court. I want to help kids make better life choices for themselves.
I feel that I have the commitment, dedication, temperament, and knowledge to make well-reasoned decisions based on the law and to give all sides a fair hearing. While inevitably, not everyone will be pleased by my decision, I will do everything I can so that they know my decision was well informed, reasoned and just.
My youngest daughter and I read it together and, after every chapter, we were both moved to tears by the characters and their struggles in the story.
