My name is Renee Vokt and I'm running for re-election for Elkhorn Public Schools Board of Education. I've lived in the EPS district for over 16 years with my husband and three boys and am proud to call Elkhorn home. My oldest was part of the first Elkhorn North graduating class and my twins are in their junior year at Elkhorn North.

I'm currently in my 8th year of serving on the EPS Board and have been actively involved in the district since my oldest was in kindergarten. I started with volunteering in his classroom, the twins classroom and then also volunteered as PTO Vice-President and President. Additional volunteer experience includes booster clubs, Prom, pep rallies, health screenings and conferences.

I am so proud to be a part of Elkhorn Public Schools. We are the fastest growing district in the state, and yet continue to be the best performing. All while maintaining a low spending ratio per student, and providing taxpayers with a 17 cent levy decrease in 2023.

I love giving back to the Elkhorn community and serving on the EPS Board allows me to do so.
  • Teachers and administrators are a top priority. We continue to look for ways to attract and retain teachers in this challenging time. I am chair of our Negotiations Committee and we worked closely with teachers to bring them a 5% increase in pay and continually look for ways to reward them.
  • While we continue to grow; currently building two more elementary schools, adding on to a middle school and high school we must stay focused on our Elkhorn families and students. We must make sure we are providing a top-notch education to each and every student.
  • Over the past two years, we have updated our strategic plan and addressed key issues in the community. Some of those concerns were student safety, mental health and class offerings other than AP.

Our administration and board have specifically addressed these concerns by passing a bond that added classroom doors to every building as well as updating building entrances to minimize access to students. We've also brought in outside speakers to address the adverse affects of social media on the mental health of students. In addition we put a cell phone policy into place at every level.

The administration, with the help of our foundation, has also implemented a CTE Scholarship program equal to our AP program.
It is imperative to keep the lines of communication with parents and families open. I can personally attest to the dedication of our teachers to being there for both students and guardians.
I've always looked up to my mother for her strength and determination. After being diagnosed with cancer at the age of 16, she faced numerous health challenges in her lifetime but continued to put others first.
The school board is a non partisan position. There is no room for political agendas. We are here to serve each and every student. Each and every family.
I worked at a Dairy Queen for about a year!
We are ultimately responsible for the Superintendent and in addition, are here to support our administration and staff.
Elkhorn teachers, administrators, families, students and the Elkhorn community.
Good teaching can be measured by assessments over the material, which includes chapter assessments and section assessments. Both of which are done by the EPS teachers on every level.
We need to continue to closely monitor the legislation that is on the table in the state of Nebraska. Our students are the future of this state and the country we live in. We need to make sure all public education is properly funded to give these children the education that will take them into the future.
Elkhorn has always made safety a priority in our schools. We've added classroom doors and entryways that limit building access for visitors. Again, we've recently updated our strategic goals but safety is and always will be a top priority.
As I mentioned above, we have brought in speakers to address the Elkhorn families and community regarding social media and its impact on mental health. We have also implemented a new phone policy at all grade levels, that began this year.
An ideal learning environment is one in which each student's method of learning is addressed. Not everyone learns at the same pace or in the same manner. Constant reassessment, which is something our teachers focus on, is a sure way to make sure each student is getting an equal education.
I am extremely proud of how the Elkhorn administration handled the pandemic, in the fact that we were up and running online without ever having done it before. In a survey conducted after the pandemic, Elkhorn Public Schools had lost no ground in terms of education. No years were lost.
I am always available to anyone in the Elkhorn community should they have questions. Every board member's email addresses accessible on the EPS website.
We must continue to work together and we must continue to think outside of the box in terms of recruitment. Teacher pay scale is a beast of its own and we must do what we can to help them move across the scale and increase pay. We must also make sure and look at plan time, days off and in-service, which is something Elkhorn does a good job of looking at. We recently added a day off before Thanksgiving to provide staff some more time off.
