In a press release announcing his candidacy, Jones explained why he was running for a board seat:

The current gridlock on the school board has paralyzed our school system. Our school system is facing unique challenges in the 21st century and we must have a fresh start and new attitude on the school board. I will bring a different way of thinking because I'm a communicator and a consensus builder. That's something that's been missing from the present situation.[5]
