Spotlight
After eighteen years on the bench, Richard Wright has retired from the Marquette County Circuit Court in Wisconsin. Wright graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1967 and began his legal career working as a patent attorney in Milwaukee. Shortly thereafter, he went to Vietnam on a mission to talk the Vietnamese people into joining the U.S. side. “Our project was to make contact with them and try to get them incorporated into our side of things. It was basically funded by the CIA,” explained Wright. He then returned to the U.S., joined the U.S. Army for a brief stint, and then went to work for a conservative think tank in Chicago. In 1974, Wright's book titled, "Who's FBI," was published and is now required reading for FBI agents. He returned to Wisconsin in 1975 and began work as a private practice attorney, and later as a district attorney for Marquette County from 1975 to 1982. He then served as the county's corporation counsel until his first term as judge. Wright served as a judge on the Marquette County Circuit Court from 1995 to 2013. Of his years spent on the bench, Wright concluded: “ It was never boring. I’d write a book, except they’d have to call it fiction, because they wouldn’t believe the things that come into court. ”
