On October 14, 2014, Judge William K. Nelson retired from the Rockland County Supreme Court in New York. He had served as a judge for the court since 1999 and as a county court judge for the Rockland County Court since 1985. From 1984 to 1985, Nelson was a family court judge for the Rockland County Family Court.[1][2] On Nelson's tenure as a judge, local defense attorney, David Goldstein, stated: "He doesn't want the accolades he deserves. He just did his job — a wonderful job he did. He's someone who's never sought the spotlight." Rockland District Attorney Thomas Zugibe described Nelson as "always tough and very compassionate. He also had a strong sense of justice. He tried to do the right thing."[1] Before his judicial career, Nelson, a Vietnam War veteran, served as a public defender and prosecutor for Rockland County. He graduated from Howard University in 1966 and received his J.D. from the Columbia University School of Law in 1971.[1][2] | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
