The Judicial Update

January 9, 2012

Oregon: Ellen F. Rosenblum, a former justice for the Oregon Court of Appeals, announced her intention to run for Oregon attorney general. The position is currently held by John Kroger who decided not to seek re-election. She is endorsed by former Governor Barbara Roberts.[1]

"Ever since I was Governor and appointed Ellen Rosenblum to be a judge, I have observed her to be one of the most accomplished, practical, and hard-working persons I know. I strongly support Ellen for Attorney General because I know we can count on her to stand up for the rights and safety of all Oregonians."[2] - Former Governor Roberts

Rosenblum's background

Rosenblum was born in Berkeley, California and grew up in Evanston, Illinois. She received her B.A. degree in Sociology from the University of Oregon in 1971 and her J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law in 1975. She began her legal career in 1975 as a private practice lawyer in Eugene, Oregon. In 1980, she became an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon. In 1988, she joined the Multnomah County Circuit Court, where she served until 2005 when she joined the Court of Appeals.[3][3] She retired from the Court of Appeals on May 1, 2011.[4]

The competition

Though Rosenblum was the first to announce her candidacy, other possible candidates are: former U.S. Attorney Dwight Holton and a Portland attorney Katherine Heekin.[1]
