Rex M. Barbas
Rex M. Barbas was a judge of the Florida 13th Circuit Court. He left office in 2023.
Barbas won re-election for judge of the Florida 13th Circuit Court outright after the general election on November 3, 2020, was canceled.
Education
Barbas received his B.A. and J.D. degrees from Loyola University-New Orleans in 1972 and 1975, respectively.[1]
Career
After doing legal research as a law clerk for Frank J. Varela from 1974 to 1975, Barbas began his career as an assistant state attorney in Tampa, Florida. He worked in that position until 1980, when he entered the private practice of law. He practiced with Anderson, Thorn, Grose & Quesada, P.A. from 1980 to 1981 and then became a founding/managing partner of Mitcham, Weed, Barbas, Allen & Morgan (now known as Barbas, Nunez, Sanders and Butler). He worked there through 1996 and then joined the circuit court.
Barbas has also taught at the University of Phoenix, NOVA University, the University of Tampa, the University of South Florida, Hillsborough Community College, Loyola University and as a lecturer at Fire Marshals and Police Academies.[1]

Barbas ran for re-election to the Thirteenth Circuit Court.
As an unopposed candidate, he was automatically re-elected without appearing on the ballot.[2]
