Rhene (Rene) is a third generation Tulsan who has lived in city council district 2 for over 30 years where she has immersed herself in the community by volunteering in the classroom for Tulsa Public Schools, on nonprofit boards and with her neighborhood association. Rhene earned a bachelors degree in Sociology from Oklahoma State University-Tulsa as a nontraditional student. Her experience includes 12 years working at the City of Tulsa, Finance department performing work with budget processes, grant management, fiscal oversight and interaction with the city council, through four mayoral administrations. For the past six years, she has worked in the nonprofit sector providing financial management and oversight for federal grants and assisting with community-wide strategic planning for Tulsa's housing and homelessness crisis throughout Tulsa County. Rhene's commitment to her community, experience with municipal operations, and professional relationships forged with local leaders sets her apart from all other candidates.
  • Housing: Tulsa, like many other cities across the nation is facing a housing crisis. Using data from the Citywide Housing Assessment and through collaboration with citizens, local service providers and leaders, Rhene will work with citizens to strategically respond to this crisis.
  • Public Safety: Every citizen deserves to feel safe in their neighborhood. Rhene will work with neighborhood associations and the local law enforcement agencies to identify and address the challenges faced by citizens. Tulsa must prioritize strategies that law enforcement officer and fire fighter staffing levels create a safe city for them and for residents. Additionally, Rhene will explore options for enhancing a collaborative community response that would allow for mental health professionals or social service providers to respond to calls, when appropriate, if the call if not for violation of the law or a life-threatening emergency.
  • Economic Opportunity: Economic opportunity is not just about attracting new businesses, it's about ensuring existing business have the ability to thrive. Rhene will work with business owners to ensure Tulsa's policies do not create unnecessary barriers. Another priority to support economic opportunity is to support local housing development through developer-friendly policies and staffing shortages by facilitating collaboration between businesses, training providers and residents.
Ritter is passionate about serving residents and local businesses.
I look up to my father who taught me to leave things better than I found them, and to work hard at everything you do. That advice led me to continually seek ways to serve my community which has led me on an incredible journey of growth, learning and opportunities to give back.
Core responsibilities for a city councilor are to serve the citizens, to ensure taxpayer dollars are used responsibly and to collaborate with local partners in other key sectors.
