Rhode Island Center for Freedom and Prosperity is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit think tank based in Rhode Island. As of August 2025, its website called itself "Rhode Island’s leading free-enterprise public policy research and advocacy organization." [1]
Background
As of August 2025, the website for the Rhode Island Center for Freedom and Prosperity said the group's goal is to "make the Ocean State a better place to call home: with greater job and educational opportunities today; increased hope for a bright and prosperous future; and more of our loved ones here with us and at our holiday family dinner tables."[2]
The group is an affiliate member of the State Policy Network, which works to "catalyze thriving, durable freedom movements in every state," according to its website.[2][3]
Leadership
As of August 2025, the chairman of the center's board was Stephen Skoly and its CEO was Mike Stenhouse.[4]
Work and activities
Legislative and policy work
The Center focused on nine core issues as of August 2025: energy, right to earn, minimum wage, energy, sales tax, health care, education, property rights and transparency.[5] The Center routinely publishes studies and analysis related to these issue areas, such as the cost of electricity in Rhode Island.[6]
In addition, the Center will circulate petitions and publish news releases on public policy issues.[7]
The Ocean State Current
The Center publishes The Ocean State Current, a digital news website that functions as its media arm. [8]
The Center also produces In The Dugout, a podcast hosted by Stenhouse.[9]
