From Ballotpedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Justices and judges in Rhode Island do not participate in judicial elections. Instead, they are screened by the Rhode Island Judicial Nominating Commission, chosen via gubernatorial appointment and confirmed by the Rhode Island Legislature. Judges are not subject to terms, but are instead appointed for life.

Rhode Island is one of seven states that does not use judicial elections as a selection method. Instead, judges are selected by one of the appointment methods. To read more about how states use judicial elections to select judges across the country, click here.
