Democratic Party for over 20 years and has acted as a voter protection legal coordinator since starting with the Obama presidential primary campaign in 2008.

  • We are at a make or break moment for public education in South Carolina. Rhodes will prioritize education and put students and teachers first.
  • District 75 was ground zero for the 2015 Flood. Rhodes will fight to strengthen dam safety/ flood prevention and fight attempts by special interests to weaken dam regulation in South Carolina.
  • Rhodes will rely on facts and science as we work to rebuild South Carolina's economy after the COVID-19 crisis.

I look up to my mother, Nancy, and my father, Skip. My mother is a trailblazer and became a lawyer in South Carolina at a time when there weren't many women lawyers in our state. She taught me about justice and putting clients' needs first. My dad is a retired nurse anesthetist and taught me the importance of compassion when dealing with others.
Approachability and accessibility are essential qualities of a good representative.
Approachability, accessibility, empathy, skepticism, and courage.
The legacy that I would like to leave is that I always had the courage to put people first. I want people to know that I do my homework and speak honestly.
Right now it's Animal Farm by George Orwell, because I just re-read it for the first time in 25 + years and the parallels I am seeing in politics today are a bit scary.
"Can't You Hear Me Knocking'?" by The Rolling Stones.
I have a visual perception learning disability that is sort of like low level dyslexia. It makes it hard to process combinations of numbers and letters quickly, but I have learned to work through it over the course of my life.
The South Carolina House of Representatives can pass its bills much faster than the state Senate, where one Senator can put a hold on just about any bill, stopping it from passage. Republicans have a majority in both houses, but the majority is substantially higher in the House.
The COVID-19 crisis has put us into a terrible position and it will take a long time to rebuild our economy. We are headed for a huge budget crisis. Now, more than ever, we need to focus on putting public interest over special interests.
It is important to build relationships with other legislators so that we can make progress on the things we all agree one. However, a "country club" atmosphere has evolved at the S.C. Statehouse. That attitude has made some legislators complacent and afraid to do the right thing, for fear of upsetting the apple cart. We need to put the citizens first and speak out about what's wrong in government.
