Green Bay Press Gazette survey
Sitnikau participated in the following survey conducted by the Green Bay Press Gazette. The questions provided by the Green Bay Press Gazette are bolded, and Sitnikau's responses follow below:
| “ |
Relevant experience: GBAPS District parent for the past 6 years. I have also been a very active community advocate. Some initiatives and proposals that I have successfully led include: Food security programs for students, pedestrian safety initiatives, zoning changes on land use proposals, City of Green Bay's stray animal contract, and the Whitney Park off-leash exercise area. Why are you running for office? I am running for the GBAPS Board of Education because I believe that the community needs and deserves a strong voice that will advocate in their best interest. I have and will continue to be responsive to the concerns and questions that the community has. Are you satisfied with the district’s response to student behavior and discipline issues at Washington Middle School? Why or why not? As a parent in the school district, I was not satisfied with the district's response to the alarming information that was coming out of Washington Middle School last summer. The comments of "we didn't know it was happening" felt disingenuous and loaded with spin. I was not serving on the board at the time, as I was appointed in November 2017. Today, as a current board member, I have yet to hear any real accountability for that event. It would've been impressive for the Superintendent to have owned that situation. The public looks to its leaders to take charge not make excuses. Parents want to know that they can send their children to a safe environment; they do not need leaders to tell them that they themselves aren't aware of what's happening in the school buildings. As a school district parent and board member, that is not acceptable to me. Transparency is a huge piece of this puzzle. I have and will continue to push for this. Because without transparency, you can't have accountability.
Safety: Whether you are walking to school, taking the bus, or sitting in a classroom, safety needs to be a top priority. Our children spend a lot of their time at school. Parents deserve to feel confident and secure. Mental Health: I would love to see an increase of support and services for kids with anxiety, depression, and other significant issues that they experience. Customer Service: It is a fact that the GBAPS District has lost a significant amount of students to Open Enrollment. While school vouchers play a role, it's also important to note that there are many kids transferring to other public schools districts as well. We need to elevate how we respond to parents and the community. We need to be transparent and accommodating when it comes to their questions and concerns. I will always respond directly to anyone that reaches out to me. What makes you the best qualified candidate to hold this office? I believe it's important to have parents on the school board. It's hard to argue the personal investment, commitment, and the amount of urgency that we bring to the table. It's also important to note that I am a fresh face and viewpoint. It's not productive when your position is attached to an allegiance or any other sort of relationship that clouds the ability for a board member to be objective. At the end of the day, I know that as a board member my commitment is to the community. I want to be their voice.[4][5] |
