Her career has focused on education, healthcare, and advocacy for working people. As a cancer survivor and caregiver who supported both her late father and her elderly mother through serious health challenges, she understands how healthcare costs, economic pressure, and public policy decisions affect families.
In addition to her professional work, Yates volunteers in the community and serves on the board of Neighborhood House, a nonprofit supporting local families in need. She is running to bring practical, real-world experience from the classroom, the hospital, and the community into state government.- A nurse and educator who understands real-life challenges: Rhonda Yates is a linguistics instructor, nurse, union member, and long-time Rochester Hills resident running for State House to bring practical, real-world experience into state government. She has spent her career teaching students, caring for patients, and advocating for working people. As a cancer survivor and caregiver for her late father and elderly mother, Yates understands firsthand how healthcare costs and economic pressures affect families. She is running to ensure the people who live and work in the community have a stronger voice in Lansing than wealthy special interests.
- Lower costs, stronger schools, and accessible healthcare: Yates’ campaign focuses on the issues that affect people’s daily lives: the rising cost of living, strong public schools, affordable healthcare, transparent government, and protecting Michigan’s environment and democratic institutions. She supports policies that lower costs for families, strengthen worker protections, support teachers and students, and ensure healthcare decisions remain between patients and their doctors.
- Practical leadership that listens and delivers: Yates believes effective representation means listening to residents and working with the community to solve problems. In Lansing, she will prioritize practical solutions that help families and seniors stay in their homes, support safe and healthy communities, and ensure young people see a future in Michigan. She will work with local governments, unions, educators, healthcare workers, and community organizations to strengthen communities and expand opportunity.
