Selection method

The members of the Texas Justice of the Peace Courts are elected in partisan elections and serve four-year terms. They are elected in a precinct-wide election.[1]

To serve as a justice of the peace, justices must complete a 40-hour course on relevant duties within one year of his or her election. They must also complete a similar 20-hour course each year they continue to serve.[2]

Four of the seven seats on the United Independent School District school board were up for general election on November 8, 2016. In District 1, incumbent Ricardo Molina defeated challenger Gilberto Aguilar Jr. Incumbent Ricardo Rodriguez won re-election against challenger Sergio Camarillo in District 2. In the race for District 4, Ramiro Veliz III defeated incumbent Rolando Arriaga and fellow challenger Juan Molina Jr.. District 7 incumbent Judd Gilpin defeated challengers Francisco Castillo and Dolores Medrano.[3]
