Rich Stevenson
Rich Stevenson (b. January 26, 1942) was a 2012 Green Party candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 1st Congressional District of Ohio.
Biography
Stevenson earned his B.S. from Murray State University in 1965. He then worked as a special agent for the United States Army Intelligence from 1965 to 1968. From 1969 to 1976, he was an investigator/insurance claims representative. Stevenson was then employed as a draftsman for Contract Machine Draftsman from 1977 to 1998. He has been a political activist/writer since 1983, and has written for Do It Yourself Press since 1996. He has also worked for Common Sense II Political Reforms as a political writer and web page designer since 1996.
Stevenson has also worked on many campaigns in the last 15 years. He has run for the U.S. House in Ohio as an Independent in 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2008. He also ran as a Green Party candidate in the last congressional election in 2010.
Campaign themes
2012
According to Stevenson's website, his campaign themes included:[1]
- Social Security; "I will protect Social Security and Medicare. I like the idea of expanding Medicare to include persons 55-65 who have no medical insurance."
- Education; "We should improve results obtained through public education systems. Internet programmed learning has proven to be a means to improve outcomes."
- Healthcare; "The insurance provider system is extremely inefficient and cost-ineffective. A less healthy population is a less productive population."
Elections
2012
Stevenson was defeated by incumbent Steve Chabot.[2] Stevenson ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Ohio's 1st District. He sought the nomination on the Green Party ticket.
The Washington Post listed the House of Representatives elections in Ohio in 2012 as one of the 10 states that could have determined whether Democrats retook the House or Republicans held their majority in 2013.[3] Ohio tied with Pennsylvania for 9th on the list.[3]
