Richard Badolato
Richard Badolato is a former New Jersey commissioner of banking and insurance. He was named acting commissioner on June 22, 2015. He was confirmed by the New Jersey State Senate in May 2016 and became permanent commissioner in June 2016. He was succeeded by Marlene Caride, who was appointed to the position by then-Governor-elect Phil Murphy (D) on December 19, 2017.[1]
Biography
Before serving as acting director, Badolato had a long legal career in civil law, working on both the trial and appellate levels. He was a partner at the Connell Law Firm, based in Roseland, New Jersey. During his career, he also served as the president of New Jersey State and Essex County Bar Associations, and has won a number of awards in recognition of his legal accomplishments.[2]
Badolato has also served as chairman on a number of legal committees including the Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Professional Ethics and the New Jersey Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism in the Law.[3]

Political career
New Jersey Commissioner of Banking and Insurance (2015-2018)
Badolato was appointed acting commissioner of Banking and Insurance in New Jersey in June 2015. His nomination was subject to approval by the New Jersey State Senate.[3] In May 2016, the state Senate confirmed his nomination and he was sworn in the following month.[2]

Upon the resignation of Commissioner Kenneth Kobylowski, Governor Chris Christie appointed Badolato acting commissioner of Banking and Insurance, effective June 22, 2015.[2]
