Richard Bird is a former at-large representative on the Westerville City School District Board of Education. He was appointed to the board in 2014. Bird sought another term in the general election on November 3, 2015.[1] Richard Bird won the general election on November 3, 2015. He did not file for re-election in 2019.

Although the election for school board is nonpartisan, Bird ran as the Democratic candidate for District 2 of the Ohio House of Representatives in 2010 and lost.

Bird is the head of information security and compliance for Mettler-Toledo International, Inc. He is active with the Westerville Sunrise Rotary, the American Legion Post 171 and the Boy Scouts. He also serves on the boards of the Columbus Museum of Art Board of Trustees and the American Red Cross of Central Ohio. Bird earned a bachelor's degree in political science from The Ohio State University.[2]

Opposition

Two of the five seats on the Westerville City School District Board of Education were up for election on November 3, 2015. All members represent the district at-large.

Incumbent Richard Bird won re-election to his seat. Gerrie Cotter won the seat left by Carol French. Other candidates for the two seats were Jim Burgess and Greg Lawson.[1][3][4]

Funding

Bird reported $13,043.92 in contributions and $10,485.99 in expenditures to the Franklin County Board of Elections, which left his campaign with $2,557.93 on hand in the election.[5]

Endorsements

Bird received an official endorsement from the Westerville Education Association.[6]
