Richard Braun
Richard Braun was a justice for the New York County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the 1st Judicial District of New York. He was elected to this position in 2004, after serving as an acting justice from 1997.[1][2]
Education
Braun received his B.A. degree from Queens College in 1969 and his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1975.[1]
Career
Braun began his career in 1975 as a staff attorney with Legal Services for Northwestern Pennsylvania. In 1976, he joined the Legal Aid Society, where he worked until 1985 (minus a short break between 1980 and 1981). He worked as a staff attorney until 1983, when he was promoted to senior attorney. In 1980 and 1981, he also was a clinical instructor of law for the Hofstra University School of Law. He then worked as a sole practitioner from 1985 through 1989.
In 1990, Braun worked briefly as an acting Criminal Court judge. That same year, he was elected to the Civil Court in New York County. He worked in this capacity until his election to the Supreme Court in 2004. Also, from 1997 through 2003, he was an acting justice of the Supreme Court.[1]
