Richard Cardamone
Richard J. Cardamone was a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit. He died on October 16, 2015. He joined the court in 1981 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. At the time of appointment, je served as a justice for the New York Supreme Court. He assumed senior status on November 13, 1993.[1][2]
Education
Cardamone was born in Utica, New York in 1925, and graduated from Harvard University with his bachelor's degree in 1948. Cardamone went on to further his education by attending, and subsequently graduating from Syracuse University College of Law with his LL.B. degree in 1952.[1]
Military service
Richard Cardamone enlisted in the U.S. Navy before the end of World War II, and served from 1943 to 1946.[1]
Professional career
After Cardamone's three year service in the Navy, he attended Harvard University and earned his bachelor's degree. Cardamone subsequently went into private practice from 1952 to 1962 at Utica, New York, his place of birth. Afterwords, Cardamone became a justice on the New York Supreme Court from 1963 to 1981.[1]
Judicial career
Second Circuit
Richard Cardamone was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit by Ronald Reagan on October 1, 1981 to a seat vacated by William Mulligan. He was confirmed on October 29, 1981, and received commission on the same day. Cardamone assumed senior status on November 13, 1993 until his death in October 2015. He was succeeded to this position by Jose Cabranes.[1][2]
