Richard Dorr was an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri. He joined the court in 2002 after being nominated by President George W. Bush. Dorr passed away while serving on the court on April 24, 2013.[1]

Education

Dorr graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana with his bachelor's degree in 1965 and later graduated from the University of Missouri Law School with his J.D. in 1968.

Military service

Dorr served in the U.S. Air Force JAG Corps from 1968 to 1973 and also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve JAG Corps from 1974 to 1990.[1]

Professional career

Dorr began his legal career as an assistant attorney general for the Missouri Attorney General's Office in 1968. After spending five years on active military service, Dorr was a private practice attorney licensed in Missouri from 1973 to 2002.[1]

Judicial career

Western District of Missouri

On the recommendation of Missouri U.S. Senator Kit Bond, Dorr was nominated by President George W. Bush on March 21, 2002, to a seat vacated by the death of Judge D. Brook Bartlett.[2] Dorr was confirmed by the Senate on August 1, 2002, and received commission on August 2, 2002.[2] On April 24, 2013, Judge Richard Dorr passed away while serving on the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri. He had served on the court for over ten years.[3]
