Richard J. Sherwood

Richard J. Sherwood was a judge for the Guilderland Town Court in Albany County, New York. He was elected to the court on November 5, 2013.[1]
Sherwood was suspended in February 2018 following felony charges of grand larceny, scheme to defraud and criminal possession of stolen property. He pleaded guitly to the charges in June 2018.[2][3]
Sherwood ran for election to the Albany County Surrogate's Court in 2014, but was unsuccessful.[4]

Primary: He was defeated in the Democratic primary on September 9, 2014, receiving 37.7 percent of the vote. He competed against Stacy L. Pettit. Sherwood is running on the Independence Party line in the general election.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 20.5 percent of the vote. He competed against Stacy L. Pettit.

Sherwood ran for election to the Guilderland Town Court.
Primary: He received 35.9 percent of the vote in the Conservative primary on September 10, 2013, defeating Stephen G. DeNigris, Denise M. Randall and Christopher R. Aldrich. Sherwood ran in the Independence Primary and won, receiving 34.3% of the vote.
General: He was elected in the general election on November 5, 2013, with 29.9 percent of the vote. Stephen G. DeNigris, Denise M. Randall and Christopher R. Aldrich were also on the ballot, competing for two open seats.[8][9][1]
Education
Sherwood received his undergraduate degree from Colgate University in 1982, his master's degree in accounting from the New York University Graduate School of Business Administration in 1983, and his J.D. degree from the Albany Law School of Union University in 1987.[10]
Career
Before he became a judge, Sherwood worked as an attorney in private practice in Albany, New York, and served as a hearing officer for the Albany County Family Court.[11]
