Recall organizer Gregory O'Sullivan initiated the effort to remove Jankauskas due to the decision by the Board of Selectmen not to renew contracts for the town's fire chief and police chief. The affidavit included with the recall petition accused Jankauskas of "undermining public safety and trust, deliberately disrupting the activities and morale of town departments and failing to carry out the duties he was sworn to uphold as selectman for which position he was duly elected."[1]
