What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
1. Work towards resolving the drug (opioid) crisis. That will entail education, law enforcement, rehabilitation, and a coming together as a society to address the 'why' use of drugs. 2. NH is the second oldest and fastest aging state in the nation. Compound that with 60% of high school grads leaving NH for college elsewhere and you have a real stress on the states economic growth. 3. NH has wonderful natural beauty and diversity and this, together with its wild life population, air and water need to be protected for our health, tourism, and good stewardship of our natural resources.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
As a physician, I am committed to protect, heal, and comfort all people irregardless of their gender, their religion or world view, their handicap, their disease or injury, their crime or their age. As an elected official, I will take that commitment with me.
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?
Two books I really enjoyed reading and learning from are: 1. Conscience of a Conservative: A Rejection of Destructive Politics & A Return To Principle by Jeff Flake 2. The Soul of America by Jon Meacham
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Honesty. A willingness to listen and learn - to try to understand the reasons behind someones opinion.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I believe I can listen to understand. That is what I have done my whole career as a physician.
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
To keep promises that were made. To keep your integrity and morals intact. To listen to the people you represent.
Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.
Yes. We are more than our "political opinion". I do not pick my friends because of their political opinion. I have friends and we do life together........it does not matter what their political opinion is, it matters only that I get to know them (and they me) as a person. Our political opinions will then emerge in the context of the whole person & will be in 'context' and understandable.
