Primary: He ran unopposed in the Republican primary on May 6, 2014.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 45.6 percent of the vote. He competed against Lynn Murray.

Russell earned his B.A. from Purdue University in 1970. He later earned his J.D. from the Indiana University School of Law in 1975.[3]
