Richard Laird (Alabama)
Richard J. Laird (b. July 4, 1939) is a former Independent member of the Alabama House of Representatives, representing District 37 from 1978 to 2014. Laird did not seek re-election in 2014.
Laird changed his party affiliation from Democratic to Independent following the 2012 election.
Laird passed away on December 14, 2020.[1]
Biography
Laird is the president and owner of Ranco Incorporated Real Estate and Development and has also owned Laird's 5 and 10. He served on the Roanoke City Council from 1972-1976.

Laird won re-election to the 37th District seat in 2010. He defeated Rodney Walker in the primary. He then defeated Bob Fincher in the November 2 general election.[2][3]

2006
On November 7, 2006, Laird was re-elected to the 37th District Seat in the Alabama House of Representatives, defeating opponent Pete Ward (R).[4]
Laird raised $125,611 for his campaign, while Ward raised $11,095.[5]

Laird and his wife Peggy have one child.
Laird is a member of the Alabama and Roakone County Cattlemen's Association and Farm Bureau, Alabama Farmers Federation, Handley Avenue Church of God, Randolph County Camp of Gideons International, Randolph County Development Association, Roanoke Rotary Club, Randolph County Boy Scouts of America, and the Randolph County Cattleman's Association and Farm Bureau.[6]
