Richard Morthland (Republican Party) was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing District 71.

Biography
Richard Morthland lives in Rock Island County, Illinois. He graduated from Riverdale High School in Port Byron, Illinois. Morthland earned a bachelor's degree in communications from St. Ambrose University and master's degrees from Spring Arbor University and Denver Seminary. He has also been a doctoral student at Denver Seminary. Morthland's career experience includes working as a professor at Black Hawk College. He was elected in 2008 to the Rock Island County Board and reelected in 2016.[1][2]

Morthland ran for re-election in the 2012 election for Illinois House of Representatives District 71. Morthland was unopposed in the March 20 Republican primary and was defeated by Mike Smiddy (D) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[3][4][5]
2010
Morthland defeated Democrat Dennis Ahern in the November 2, 2010, general election for a seat that was held by incumbent Democrat Mike Boland, who did not run for re-election.[6]

Morthland lives on a farm with his wife Betsey, to whom he has been married for 30 years. Both Morthlands are college professors who have travelled twice to the Czech Republic at their own expense to teach English to Czech children.

Morthland received a score of 75.00 out of 100 in 2012 for a grade of B- according to the IOP’s grading scale. His score was tied for the 12th highest among all 120 members of the Illinois House of Representatives included in the Vote Card.[8]
