Richard Mosk
Richard M. Mosk was an associate justice on the California Second District Court of Appeal. He was appointed by former Governor Gray Davis and took his oath of office on October 22, 2001. Mosk was retained by voters in 2002 and 2006.[1] His last term would have expired on January 7, 2019.[2]
Mosk announced in March 2016 that he would retire from the bench.[3] He passed away in April 2016.[4]
Education
Mosk earned his A.B. from Stanford University in 1960 and received his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1963. He was also on active duty as an enlisted person in the California Air National Guard and a commissioned legal officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve.[5][6]
Career
Mosk was a Warren Commission staff member in 1964 and a law clerk for California Supreme Court Justice Mathew Tobriner in 1964 and 1965. He was a partner in the Los Angeles law firm of Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp from 1965 to 1987. In 1975, Mosk took a leave of absence from the firm to serve as a special deputy federal public defender. From 1976 to 2000, he was a principal of the law firm Sanders, Barnet, Goldman, Simons & Mosk, P.C. Mosk was designated an Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal judge in The Hague from 1981 to 1984, and from 1997 to 2001.[5]
