Richard W. Roberts is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. He joined the court in 1998 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton (D). He served as chief judge of the court from 2013 to 2016. Roberts assumed senior status on March 16, 2016.[1][2]

Early life and education

Roberts earned a bachelor's degree from Vassar College in 1974. He earned a master's degree in International Affairs from the School of International Training in 1975. He earned a J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1978.[1]

Roberts was nominated by President Bill Clinton (D) on January 27, 1998, to a seat vacated by Judge Charles Richey when Richey assumed senior status. Roberts was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 5, 1998, and received his commission on June 23, 1998. He became Chief Judge of the court in 2013 and served until March 16, 2016.[1]
