Richard Sossi
Richard Sossi (b. June 23, 1943) was a 2014 Republican candidate for District 36 of the Maryland State Senate.[1] He previously served in the Maryland House of Delegates, representing District 36 from 2003 to 2011 and serving as Deputy Minority Whip.
Biography
Sossi's professional experience includes owning The Ship & Soldier Shop and working as Department Manager of Montgomery Wards and as a realtor. Sossi served in the United States Navy.
Sossi has served as Chair of the Queen Anne's County Delegation and a member of the Maryland Veterans Caucus, Task Force on Traffic Capacity Across the Chesapeake Bay, Bainbridge Development Advisory Board, Maryland Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus and the Maryland Rural Caucus.[2]

Elections for the Maryland State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 24, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 25, 2014. Ben Tilghman was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Incumbent Stephen Hershey, Jr. defeated Richard Sossi in the Republican primary. Hershey defeated Tilghman in the general election.[1][3][4]

Sossi was defeated by Stephen Hershey, Jr. in the September 14 Republican primary. Sossi lost by a margin of 5,382 to 5,229.

On November 7, 2006, Richard Sossi ran for District 36 of the Maryland House of Delegates, beating Mary Walkup, Michael Smigiel, Sr., Wheeler Baker, Mark Guns, Joan Horsey, and Joseph Sanchez.[5]
