Biography

Richard Straut was born in Decatur, Georgia. Straut served in the U.S. Army from 1986 to 1989. He earned a bachelor's degree from Brenau University in 1995. Straut's career experience includes working as a police sergeant for the Atlanta Police Department.[1]

I am a retired Law Enforcement Professional that spent 30 years as an Atlanta Police Officer and Sergeant as well as served in George Army National Guard as an MP and Later Commissioned as flight platoon leader. A Graduate of Stone Mountain High School and Bernal University in Gainesville with a major in Criminal Justice and Public Administration. Survivor of catastrophic injury and returned to full duty to complete the remaining 27 years. Was President of the Atlanta Chapter Police Benevolent Association for 6 years and ushered through legislation at both the city and State level that benefited the men and women in Law Enforcement. I am youngest of 4 growing up in Stone Mountain and a member of Pine Lake Baptist Church until moving to Atlanta and later to Gainesville after retiring in 2016..
  • Your Law and Order Candidate I will seek to Amend Victims Bill of rights to ensure violent perpetrators are prosecuted within 1 year
  • End State Income Tax
  • A Commission to oversee Hartsfield Jackson Airport for the benefit of all of Georgia
Georgia shouldn’t have to complete with Florida,Texas and other states that have abolished or have No State income Tax. We can find the areas to reduce spending and increase revenue to cover that so that we can end this punitive tax on Georgia workers. One funding method could be part of a commission to oversee Hartsfield-Jackson International airport.
Secondly; create A victims bill of rights that include a measure for victims petition the Attorney General to prosecute the perpetrators of a violent crime in adjacent counties to where the crime was committed if the DA fails to prosecute.
I actually have several but my first being my Father who has always been my hero and I like and respect former Congressman Trey Gowdy from South Carolina who is considerate kind and thoughtful while still maintaining conservative ideals and hard hitting truth and inquiry...

Energy use, transportation and taxes
The benefit is that there’s no opposition and the minority members lose unless they gather a consensus. It would probably make it easier to pass legislation no matter how horribly flawed it may be. It’s more proof that our founding fathers were brilliant beyond anyones understanding at the time our government was established
I think it may be beneficial but individuals that haven’t necessarily been in government bring a perspective that may be something government needs! Efficiency, honesty and absolute truths
I do. It allows for you to gain an understanding of what issues are important and why there should be support or objections to certain legislation
