Richard Young (Indiana state senator)
Richard D. Young, Jr. (b. December 2, 1942) is a former Democratic member of the Indiana State Senate, representing District 47 from 1988 to 2014. He served as Minority Leader Pro Tempore and as Crawford County Auditor.
Biography
Young earned his A.B. in Behavioral Sciences from Vincennes University. His professional experience includes working as President/Board Chair of E and S Distributors, Incorporated and owner of Blue River Valley Farms.[1]

Elections for the Indiana State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 6, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 7, 2014. Incumbent Richard D. Young, Jr. was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Erin Houchin defeated Harris Lloyd "Tad" Whitis in the Republican primary. Houchin defeated Young in the general election.[2][3]

Young defeated Republican candidate Ted Metzger by a margin of 22,970 to 21,915 in the November 2 general election.[4]

On November 7, 2006, Democrat Richard Young won re-election to the Indiana State Senate District 47 receiving 27,688 votes, ahead of Republican Brian Thomas receiving 15,289 votes.[6]
