Richardson for nearly five years, Rick Castillo exited service in 2011 with principled leadership, integrity & mentorship. With an urge to absorb the meaning of grit, culture, business, and industry - founded upon by so many Alaskans - Rick was on a journey to learn more about his new home - Alaska. While attending the University of Alaska Anchorage, Rick was part of building the fabric of community and business through student organizations like Emerging Leaders Program, Global Logistics Club, and founding the Phi-Alpha chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon. After graduation, Rick stayed congruent towards his core values while investing in other community organizations like Hillside Rotary Club, Alaska Humanities Forum's Leadership Anchorage, and as an active member of his community council. Rick has interned, consulted, and worked in the industries of Oil & Gas, Distribution and Transportation, Education. Rick has his bachelor's in supply chain management, and currently works in
telecommunications as Logistics Manager.- Alaska is facing unprecedented economic uncertainty that can destabilize our most valued industries. Our city, and our state, are faced with fiscal challenges that require an urgent response. In creating a sustainable Anchorage, I will comb through redundant programs and work with our city to optimize public resources. These difficult decisions will have to revolve around reducing the size of government in an effort to provide property tax relied and keep Anchorage residents from leaving.
- In order to combat homelessness, we must do our due diligence to rid the camps of criminals who prey among addicts, women, and youth who find themselves on the street. As a District 6 Assembly member, I will work hard to use diverse tools in solving individual needs while understanding the causation and tackling the root - not funding temporary resources.
- Our community thrives when business thrives. As your elected official, I will be certain to bridge relationships with small business owners and emerging markets. If we allow contention to rise in the business community due to a lack of responsibly developing industries - we risk losing our small business owners and innovators. It's time to revisit anchorage ordinances that do not promote an equitable, and healthy, business climate. Anchorage is fertile ground for small business to invest in.
