Rick DeFuria
Rick DeFuria was a judge of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit Court in Sarasota County, Florida. He first joined the court in 1981. He retired in 1986 to become an actor, though he continued to serve as a senior judge from 1988 through 2001. In January of 2003, DeFuria returned to the bench to replace retiring Judge Thomas Gallen. DeFuria's retired from the court in 2013.[1][2][3][4]
Education
DeFuria received his B.A. degree from Ithaca College in 1968 and his J.D. degree from Stetson University in 1973. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserve for six years. In 1986, he received his master's degree in acting from Florida State University.[2]
Career
Early in his career, DeFuria worked as an assistant state attorney, attorney in private practice, and assistant public defender. He served on the circuit court bench from 1981 to 1986. He then worked as a senior judge and actor. In 2002, he was elected without opposition to the circuit court.[2][3][5]
