Text of measure

Ballot question

The following question appeared on the ballot:[1]

Should the City of Rio Dell, by the necessary and appropriate action, permit commercial cannabis business activity, including cannabis cultivation, testing, processing and sales, within the area of the City that is located to the north of the Eel River and commonly referred to as the Sawmill Annexation Area if that activity is subject to local taxation?[2]

Impartial analysis

The following impartial analysis of the measure was prepared by the office of the Rio Dell City Attorney:

The Rio Dell City Council is submitting to the voters an advisory question on whether the Council should permit commercial cannabis businesses to operate within that area of the city north of the Eel River, commonly referred to as the Sawmill Annexation Area. The Council submits the question to obtain and consider the will of the voters to taking further action on the subject.

The ballot measure is advisory only, meaning that the voters are not voting to enact new law and the City Council is not bound by the results. If a majority votes “no” on the measure, the City Council may, at its discretion, permit cannabis businesses to operate within the city. Likewise, if a majority vote “yes”, the City Council may prohibit such activity.

This measure has no financial impact and does not affect existing law. [2]

—Rio Dell City Attorney[1]
