An effort to recall Rita Nader from her position as President of the Pinal County Community College District, commonly known as Central Arizona College, was launched in August 2013. Supporters of the recall circulated petitions in order to qualify the recall question for the ballot.[1] The recall failed to make the ballot because supporters did not submit signatures by the deadline; therefore, it did not go to a vote.[2]

Background

The recall effort was led by a group calling themselves "Central Arizona College Recall Committee." Recall supporters were upset over a 17.4 percent primary tax-rate increase that the board passed in July 2013. Recall supporters said Nader pushed the tax increase through as the board's leader.[1][3]

Nadar began representing District 4 on the college's governing board in 1993. At the time of the recall attempt, her term was set to expire in 2016.[4]

Recall supporters were required to collect 1,326 signatures from registered voters in Nader's district by November 28, 2013, to trigger a recall election. Central Arizona College Recall Committee Chairman Dick Hudgins and treasurer Richard Brinkley filed the initial petition with the county clerk's office. The petitioners did not submit signatures by the deadline and, thus, failed to force a recall election.[1][2]
