Campaign themes
Hamill's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[2]
Property Tax Reform
- Excerpt: "The public sector must start paying more for their health care and especially their pensions to relieve pressure on taxpayers, as this will solve many of the budget issues that have led to tax increases."
Jobs and the Economy
- Excerpt: "We must also develop our resources and allow private companies to have profit incentives to locate here. Privatization of public services such as liquor stores should be passed. We need to reform the corrections system to improve the recidivism of non-violent offenders and bring them back into society as productive members, not wards of the state!"
Public Pension Reform
- Excerpt: "We must eliminate all defined benefit public pension plans. The retirement ages need to be increased to 65. Public employees need to pay more into their pension and health care, just like the private sector."
Education
- Excerpt: "We must pass a no-strike law for our teachers. Tenure needs to be changed to allow for progress not stagnation. Ineffective teachers need to be dismissed without a union protecting them."
Environment
- Excerpt: "We are fortunate to have a state rich in resources of natural gas, lumber, and clean water. We need continued development of the Marcellus shale for prosperity in our state. There have been issues surrounding the shale drilling that are being addressed by the gas companies and EPA. Fairness in dealing with landowners becomes important also."
