Leadership I will work closely with the principals, teachers, students and parents of the Matoaca District to ensure that we are transparent and responsive and that we encourage an open dialogue. The School Board must take input from all groups and weigh all the facts before making a decision. I want to hear about both the good and the bad in our schools. I believe in accountability at all levels. No individual or organization is perfect, but when mistakes are made, they need to be addressed quickly and processes put into place so it doesn’t happen again. I will hold the school administration accountable. Innovator Effective leadership for our schools requires the ability to look to the future and make decisions now based on solid analytics that will pay dividends later for our children. This includes the areas of instruction, technology, construction and infrastructure. Fiscal Conservative There are a lot of commercial best practices out there that the School Board can leverage. The budget needs to be scrubbed and looked at for “ROI” (return on investment). The board needs to look at new ways to save dollars so we can reinvest them back into the classrooms – for instance, new ways to do contracting, such as using “performance based” contract vehicles versus the older style “firm fixed price” or “cost plus” contracting. That means that instead of a contractor being paid no matter what his performance, responsiveness and timeliness is, there are standards that they are measured against. This allows us to hold back payments or even assess penalties on quarterly basis. [5] |
