I'm Rob Walter, running for reelection on the Cabarrus County Board of Education. I'm completing my third term (12 years) on the board and I've got strong track record for being prepared, asking questions, and always focusing on what is best for students in our district. I'm a resident of Concord, work full-time for the City of Concord Aviation Department at the Concord-Padgett Regional Airport. My wife Amie and I have one student that graduated from Cabarrus County Schools in 2020 and another that will graduate in 2025.

Community values, input, and engagement are critical part of having a successful school system and I welcome that engagement.

  • Experience. I've served on the Cabarrus County School Board for past 12 years, which is the most of any current board members. That experience is valuable in understanding the history and background of past decisions, board policies, and the role and operation of the school board, county commission, and the State of North Carolina.
  • I'm a parent of a student in Cabarrus County Schools and bring that perspective to the board first. I believe board decisions, rules, and policies should be understandable and our processes transparent.
  • Student success. We all have a role to play in student success at Cabarrus County Schools. Individualized education, Career pathways, school safety, community partnerships, quality leadership, great teachers and staff, and a strategic plan and school improvement process to keep us focused and accountable.
Student Engagement, School Funding, Career and College readiness, arts, parent involvement, and county growth are some of my top priorities.
Being able to listen, consider all sides, and understand issues and impacts of decisions.
Commitment to putting in the time to fulfill the duties of the office, respect for others, empathy, diligence, being observant, looking at details, expectations that staff justify and explain the recommendation I'm being asked to vote on.
To understand that we are representing the people that elected us, to look out for the best interest of our students, staff, and community.
Space Shuttle Challenger explosion. I was 16, in a social studies classroom watching on TV. The teacher didn't know how to explain what we had just seen.
Cabarrus County Republican Party and a number of current and past local elected officials.
Great leadership is key. Make Cabarrus County Schools a collaborative place where people want to come work to positivity impact our students. Reward those that are successful or are making the extra efforts beyond their regular duties.
Transparency is critical. We should not make it difficult to see what and how the school system spends its resources on, how our students are doing academically, or what is being taught to our students.
