Robert Aviles is a former District 2 representative on the Peoria Board of Education in Illinois. Aviles won election after running unopposed in the general election that was held on March 15, 2016.[1] He resigned on July 15, 2019, citing personal and professional reasons.[2]

Aviles has served as an associate professor of school counseling at Bradley University. He obtained a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Arizona. He went on to earn both a master's degree in counseling and a doctorate degree in psychology from Lehigh University.[3]

Two of the seven seats on the Peoria Board of Education were up for general election on March 15, 2016. District 2 incumbent Debbie Wolfmeyer and District 3 incumbent Rick Cloyd did not file for re-election. Robert Aviles ran unopposed and won the District 1 seat. In District 3, Daniel Walther defeated Terry Spayer.[1]

Funding

Aviles reported no contributions or expenditures to the Illinois State Board of Elections during the election.[4] School board candidates in Illinois are only required to file campaign finance reports if they accept contributions or make expenditures in excess of $5,000 in a 12-month period.[5]

Aviles was endorsed by the local advocacy group Change150.[6]
