Robert B. Spence was a judge on the Second District Appellate Court in Illinois. He was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court in October 2012, effective November 5.[1] He retired in 2019.[2]

Spence also served on the Sixteenth Circuit Court (2nd Subcircuit) until 2019. He was appointed to this position in 2001 and was elected to a full term in 2004. He was chosen by his fellow judges to become the court's chief judge on December 1, 2011, and served almost a year in that position before his appellate appointment.[3][4] Spence was retained in the general election on November 8, 2016.

Spence received his undergraduate degree from Taylor University in 1977 and his J.D. from John Marshall Law School in 1980.[4]

Judges of the Illinois Circuit Court stand for retention after their first full term. To be retained, a judge must receive at least 60 percent of the vote.[5][6] Robert B. Spence was retained in the Illinois Sixteenth Circuit Court, Robert Spence Retention Election with 78.49 percent of the vote.
