Robert C. (Bob) Hunter was a judge on the North Carolina Court of Appeals. He was appointed to the court by former Governor Jim Hunt in July 1998. Hunter was then elected to the court in November 1998 and re-elected in November 2006. He retired from the bench at the end of his last term in December 2014.[1]

Education

Hunter received his undergraduate degree in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1966 and his J.D. degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1969.[2]

Career

Hunter began his legal career in 1969 as an assistant district attorney. In 1970, he became an attorney for McDowell County, a position he held until 1994. During this time, from 1970 to 1998, he was also a senior attorney and the president of the law firm Hunter & Evans, PA. Also, from 1980 to 1998, Hunter served as an elected official on the North Carolina House of Representatives in the 49th House District. He was then appointed to the North Carolina Court of Appeals in 1998.[2]

  • 1981-1982: Outstanding North Carolina County Attorney Award
  • 1986: Recognized by North Carolina District Attorneys' Association for contributions to Criminal Justice
  • 1986: Legislative Award by McDowell County Board of Education
  • 1985: Family Services of McDowell County Award in appreciation for defending the basic rights of battered women and abused children [2]

Elections

2010

Hunter ran for a seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court held by Edward Thomas Brady. He was defeated by Barbara Jackson in the general election, receiving 48.13% of the vote.[3][4][5]
